Bera Receives Commitment that U.S. Posture on Korean Peninsula "Remains the Same"

Today, Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific, received a commitment from Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the United States remains committed to providing extended nuclear deterrence on the Korean Peninsula. During a hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Bera asked Secretary Rubio whether any changes had been made to the United States’ longstanding security posture toward South Korea following recent discussions with Korean leaders. Secretary Rubio confirmed that U.S. policy remains unchanged and emphasized the strength of military-to-military cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea.
